Through booms and busts, Delft Theatres Inc. — and its innovative gem, The Nordic — endured in Marquette, Michigan for almost 100 years, even as the world changed endlessly around them.
Local teenager Bernie Rosendahl’s modern crusade to restore the historic arthouse to its former glory as an adult, leads filmmakers to discover a hidden cinema empire in the Upper Peninsula. Portraying the fascinating history of motion pictures through one iconic screen — and featuring dozens of Michigan locations and characters — “Marqueetown” is a true story of chasing your dreams, redefining failure and success, and reembracing the enduring magic of cinema.
Join legendary songwriter, musician and indie filmmaker Matt Farley for a special Q&A following the premiere of the new documentary "Marqueetown" with all ticket sales benefitting the theater. Farley's song Marquetteis featured in the film from his epic project The Guy Who Sings Songs About Cities & Towns that he started in 2008, among hundreds of other creative endeavors. Farley was recently profiled by The New York Times for the prolific and creative career unlike any other, which now also includes directing his own independent films (which have screened at The Venue). This special one-time event celebrates a story about dreamers, redefining success and failure, and the enduring love of cinema.
